Match one for the Star All-Stars (C Grade) was an entertaining affair.
Another fantastic day for cricket today. We lost the toss and they elected to bat, we would have bowled anyway so no big loss. Dave and Mark opened up with the ultimatum that they couldn't bowl any more than 3 wides each... that didn't last long as both bowlers filled that quota within their first two overs. All the bowlers bowled well but 26 wides is still far too many. Obviously a bit of work still needed at practise.
The prem's went down in a close battle with Tech in the weekend. We made 223/9 off fifty overs in an unusual Star innings. Zeb and Biggles got the team off to a good start, with Aidan blasting a quick 30. Braces carried on the trend with a quick 20 and we were well placed at 102/3 after 25 overs. Two quick wickets stright after drinks put the brakes on things and it was a struggle to rebuild losing wickets at regular intervals for the remainder of the innings. Only a superbly timed 79 not out from Damo got us through to the competitive total, hitting 35 of these runs off his last 8 balls, including 4 sixes in the final over.
There is a hell of a lot going on at the moment so we thought we'd send you a note to get you up to speed.
Prems and As started their limited overs comp last weekend.
The As chased down 174 and you can read Stirlos short story about it on the blog. The Prems lost narrowly, but Daimo got his name in the paper for taking 28 off the last over. He was stoked, to put it mildly.
I'm sure that Mark C will have an account of the prems match on the blog any day now.
This weekend the third team kicks it into gear. The self proclaimed Star All-Stars is playing in the C Grade competition and will feature some new faces and some really, really old faces.
To celebrate the start of the season the club invites you all to the Eastside Tavern on Saturday night for some drinks. Kick-Off is at 7pm.

Well the morning started out fantastically with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky. We had a good team on paper for the game and were confident of playing well and winning against Suburbs at Discovery Park. We won the toss and elected to field first for no other reason than there was a bit of dew on the outfield so the ball wouldn't travel as far.
All,
With the 20/20 finished and the season proper about to kick off we will have all three teams in operation. We wanted to let you know how we’ve structured the teams this year.
We will, as usual have a Premier and Senior A side, playing 50 over and 2-day cricket.
The premier competition is of course highly competitive, with a decent dose of Star Varsity humour thrown in.
The Senior A competition is fairly competitive, but there is more of a focus on development (and some fun.)
This year, we have chosen to enter our third team in the Senior C competition.
This competition plays limited overs cricket only, starting at 1pm in the afternoon.
The Cs competition is only as competitive as we want it to be – the focus is on getting out and having a crack, enjoying some cricket and improving as we go. The club board is putting a lot of time and effort into ensuring that this team has a ball this season!
We think having a Cs side provides better options for our players, and will hopefully appeal to semi-retired individuals that can’t commit to a 10:30am start. (You know who you are and I am waiting for your call.)
If you have any questions please let us know. Past players - if you are interested in getting involved with the third team – now is the time to get in touch.
Cheers

10 one day games (45 overs) and 5 two day games (96 overs a day) all starting at 10.30 am
Mostly grass wickets.
Slightly higher standard.
18 games of 35 overs starting at 1pm.
Still a reasonable standard.
Some B grade sides that preferred this format.
Some grass wickets, some artificial.
