Star All-Stars Fall Over the Line 31 October

Match one for the Star All-Stars (C Grade) was an entertaining affair.

The skipper knew that he could count on the senior players to set the tone early - and he was not disappointed, with Kerry, Stu and Daryl showing up right on time, at the wrong ground.

We lost the toss and they elected to bat, and at game time players were still drifting in - we started with eight and built up to ten within the first three overs.

Stu and Kerry (FormerPremierBowlingTrophyWinner) opened the attack, and took a while to dial in the radar, we had to stop regularly to sweep rust off the crease.

With the exception of one batsman, Eastlink never really got going. They were tied down by accurate bowling and tidy fielding. Kerry, Stu and Yap all picked up a a couple of wickets, and Peter squeezed out three at the end with some hooping inswingers.

Eastlink were bowled out for 130, including 20 wides (which will need to be sorted out!)

In reply, we lost James early, but Francois got things moving. At the other end, Brendan looked all-class.

But the top order didn't last long, with everybody getting a start but not moving on.

We were on 70 odd with 7 wickets down at drinks.

Stu and Kerry stopped the bleeding and carried us through to 106 with 12 overs to go before Stu holed out after a great little knock.

With 24 to win and 12 overs remaining the scene was well set for a trademark captains knock from the self proclaimed "knot-at-the-end-of the-rope". But the skipper played inside one and had the castle disturbed, leaving Kerry and Daniel - (who had already given himself up as a bunny) to see us home.

It was scary stuff, with Kerry bringing out the reverse pull and Dan hitting one straight to gully with 6 needed, only to see him shell it. But they held it together long enough to get us across the line.

The other performance that really stood out on the day was from young James O'Brien who dropped his first attempted catch for the club (but got the run out), was out caught in the first over, and then ran out Brendan (while running for him) when he was looking well set. Next week is a garunteed PB Jimmy-O.

Player of the day points:
Kerry 3
Stu 2
Peter 1
