HCA 20/20 Rules

Hamilton Cricket Association – 20/20 Rules.

1 The Competition.
The competition will comprise of a round robin series followed by a final.

In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the right to play in the final will be determined by the team with the highest net run rate.
(calculated by the average runs per over scored deducted by the average runs per over scored against in the round robin series).
If a team is all out in less than the overs allocated then the net run rate must be based on the full amount of overs allocated.

2 Hours of play and intervals.

First session 10.00am – 11.30am
Interval 11.30am – 11.45am
Second session 11.45am – 1.15pm

First session 2.00pm – 3.30pm
Interval 3.30pm – 3.45pm
Second session 3.45pm – 5.15pm

If the innings of the team batting first is completed early then the Interval shall be taken immediately and the second session must take place 15 minutes from the completion of the first session.
If the first session is not completed by the allocated time then the innings will be called to a close and the team batting second will only be allocated the same number of deliveries.

3 Length of innings.

20 overs constitutes a match; however if rain affected the match may be reduced to 15 overs, any less constitutes a rained out match (tie).

4 The Ball.

A new red kookaburra regulation or club match ball must be used in each innings. However if the opposition captain agrees a used ball may be used by either team, but must be given to the umpire before the match begins.

5 The Result.

If a minimum of 15 overs per team cannot be achieved by 11.30 or 3.30 the match is abandoned and a tie results
If play is reduced through rain during the second innings the first innings score shall be calculated at runs per over x the number allocated to complete the second innings.

6 Restriction on placement of fielding.

There shall be no more than 5 fieldsmen on the leg side at any time.
For the first 10 overs only 2 players may field outside an imaginary 30 yard circle and for the last 10 overs only 5 players may field outside the imaginary 30 yard circle.

7 Number of overs per bowler.

No bowler may bowl more than four overs.
In the case of delayed or interrupted matches no bowler may bowl more than one fifth of the overs available. (where the number is not divisible by five an additional over shall be allowed to a minimum number of bowlers).

8 Declarations.

Do not apply.

9 No ball.

Two runs will be awarded and a free hit for whichever batsman is then facing.
For any free hit delivery, the striker can be dismissed only under the circumstances that apply for a no ball, even if the delivery for the free hit is called a wide ball.

10 Wide ball.

Same interpretation as Limited overs with a penalty of one run and the ball to be rebowled.

11 Timed out.

The incoming batsman must be ready to make his way to the pitch immediately a wicket falls as either batsman must be ready to face the next delivery within 90 seconds of the fall of the previous wicket.

12 Short pitched bowling.

One per over (is a delivery that passes between the batsman’s shoulder and head while he is standing upright).

13 Over rate penalties.

Teams are expected to be in position to deliver their final over within 90 minutes of commencement of the innings. Umpires will report sides that fail to meet this commitment and points will be deducted or teams could be disqualified from the match.
