Division 1 Day Two Result

Day 1
HBHS 204

C Botha 53
I McKillip 48

Joel Thompson 5-34
Cam Vette 2-64

Star Varsity 102/7
A. Verma 5-25
Siddarth Mahabal 25
X. Tras 27

The Division 1 side had a frustrating day. Having inserted HBHS they had them playing and missing constantly, but were either unable to find edge or hold the catch. (dropped 6). As the pitch flattened out and the atmospherics improved HBHS kicked on from 120/6 to 206 all out.

Joel was the best of the bowlers, with a demanding line and length.

In the face of some good quality pace bowling from young Verma the lads struggled to survive on a lively pitch. Some work to be done to get on top in that one.

Day Two
Star Varsity 147
Siddarth Mahabal 25
Joel Thompson 25
X. Tras 42
A Verma 7-49

HBHS 217/7 Declared

This innings was noteable for the return to the bowling crease of Stu Pilling. The big fella looked like he had never been away. Also impressive was the four run-outs we executed, of which only three were given....

Star Varsity 61/1

On a pacy and seaming pitch the target set of 275 of 43 lacked a little imagination. Play was called off at 5.

On to St Pauls next week...

"On a pacy and seaming pitch the target set of 275 of 43 lacked a little imagination". I sit and laugh at this statement like non other. Is this a culmination of "winning isn't important, it's the taking-part" mentality that had encompassed NZ sport in the late 90's? Apparently, the decision was made because the boys needed some confidence, not having batted beyond 40 overs for the whole season. With this statistic, one can also assume that they have not won either and obviously that doesn't need to be practised. They will need to learn a thing or two before graduating to the "win at all costs" mentality of their father-club.

Pathetic
