Blues Squeak Home Against the Reds

The Star Varsity Division 1 Blue Team squeaked home over their Red counterparts in Saturdays Grudge Match.

In a delayed-start 40 over match, the Blues won the toss (Two in a row for the skipper) and chose to bat in difficult fielding conditions,  piling on a massive 281/9 in 40 overs. Darryl Gibb starred with an imaginative century, and his chief partner in crime was all-rounder (officially) Daniel Hennebry, who scored 57. For the Reds, a significant milestone was the return to the bowling crease of champion fast bowler Greg O'Carroll. Greg may have trimmed his run-up, but showed he can still get it through when he wants to.

In reply the Reds made a promising start, with Charles Johnston (43) and Sid Mahabal (22) making batting look easy for a time.  After that partnership was broken, the Reds lost wickets regularly and often, to be all out for 105, just short of the total.  Best of the bowlers were Campbell Vette, with 3/11 off 7 and the much travelled Nick Shoston, 4/31 off 8. Impressively, the Blues did not concede a wide for 15 overs. (When the captain came on.)

In lower grade action, the Premier match at Innes Common was called off due to generally swamp-like conditions.

This weekend, the Prems play someone, the Blues match up with Suburbs at Clyde Park and the Reds take on Melville Red at Steele 2.
